5.0 out of 5 stars Knead to use it correctly...., January 6, 2010

This review is from: Blue Magic 6004 QuikSteel Steel Reinforced Epoxy Putty Counter Box - 4 oz. (Automotive)
First off, let me say that I have experienced the crumbling problem too... however, it is a problem common to ALL putty, if you don't completely, totally, mix it together. If you do, rest assured, it out-performs EVERY OTHER putty PERIOD. I am a total wack-job when it comes to repairs. I can fix everything but a broken heart (according to my daughters), and could not do it without QuikSteel. It is the ONLY putty I have found (and I have tested at least 10 of them) that will effectively seal a leaking pressurized water pipe.

Do not try and use an epoxy putty where you should be using a liquid epoxy. The big difference is adhesion. Putty is not as adhesive, so if you are trying to "glue" something, this is not the right tool for the job. For effective repairs, you need to perfect your use of adhesives and putty in combination sometimes. If you need wicked adhesion, then initially you would use plain-old super glue... then when dry, putty over that for added... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for the right applications, not as universal as implied., April 7, 2009
First, it does NOT (repeat, does NOT NOT NOT) "fully cure in 1 hour".

Performance varies. It usually gets "most" of its strength after 10 minutes, but I have seen it take up to several hours, even a whole day, to really get 100% rock-hard. By one hour, it is probably 90%

Successful uses:

Filled a crummy car stereo knob. Hard to explain, but easy to understand if you have ever seen it. The internal tube, which slides over the stereo's shaft, always cracks and comes loose. I filled the hollow portion of the knob with quicksteel, and it will now last forever. Quicksteel seems to handle high heat much better than any other substance, and doesn't shrink over time, which is critical for this use.

Wrapped some around a stubborn piece of hardware that wouldn't unscrew, and was not shaped for any kind of wrench. The quicksteel dries on like glue, and could be shaped to grab with real tools. It's hard to remove, so it's only for desperate... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical stuff but Be careful about short working time and expiration date., May 9, 2011
This review is from: Blue Magic 6004 QuikSteel Steel Reinforced Epoxy Putty Counter Box - 4 oz. (Automotive)
Works great if you:

1. Follow the instructions exactly.
1a. Don't be afraid to wet hands- really helps in kneading and keeping your hands clean. Seriously, the stuff is extremely sticky which is one of its great points. You can actually use the stuff under water!
2. If you cant get the mixture baby rear-end smooth then discard the hole tube. If you feel chunks or flakes in your mixture then the strength may not be optimal.
2a. When you buy it, mark the purchase date and discard within 2-3 years. It does get old, and old product won't mix well. With old product you will know when a smooth mixture not achievable even after minutes of kneading.
3. SHORT working time: get everything clean, dry (if possible) and set for mending. If you spend too much time kneading, it will cure quite literally in your hands! Don't try to much with a batch-make small batches instead to shorten the working time needed.
